THE MINISTER OF WOMEN AFFAIRS AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, SENATOR AISHA ALHASSAN VISITS HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR YAHAYA BELLO OF KOGI STATE

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Alhassan has advocated the establishment of Women Development Centres across the Kogi State. This will help the state properly key into Social Intervention programmes for women & children by the Federal Government.
The Minister stated this when she paid a courtesy call on Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello in his office at the Government House, Lokoja. Senator Aisha Alhassan said she was in the State on advocacy visit and to sensitize women of the state on the various social protection programmes for women & children such as National Women Empowerment Fund (NAWEF) and Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) initiated by the Federal Government. She explained that the APC led federal government was fulfilling its promises to women who must fully participate in the programmes in view of the role they play in the society.
The minister urged the state government to domesticate the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act as well move the Child Rights Act Committee which is currently domiciled in the State Ministry of Justice to the Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development.
Senator Aisha applauded Governor Yahaya Bello for appointing women into key positions in the State.
In his response, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello lauded the role of women in the State particularly those in his cabinet which he said had been hardworking. Governor Bello assured that the present administration would support the federal government in achieving empowerment for women, children & the vulnerable in the State. According to the Governor, the State government had put in place several programmes targeted at women and children.
